Hanshow launches PriceWizard tool for retailers

Published on 11/09/2026By Amelia Nelson

PriceWizard, a retail technology firm with four decades of experience, has broadened its electronic shelf labeling (ESL) offerings in Africa through a partnership with Hanshow, China’s top producer of digital price displays. This alliance establishes PriceWizard as a primary vendor for African retailers upgrading their pricing and inventory systems.

The Hanshow ESL platform replaces outdated paper labels with dynamic digital screens that adjust prices instantly. This eliminates manual updates, cuts operational expenses, and tightens supplier coordination while simplifying store management. The system is built to handle various retail formats—supermarkets, pharmacies, specialty shops, and chain stores, using proprietary Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) technology.

Beyond dynamic pricing, the solution integrates O2O (Online-to-Offline) tools. Shoppers can scan QR codes on labels to view product information, complete purchases through mobile apps, and share deals via social networks. It also supports exclusive VIP discounts, boosting customer interaction.

For African businesses, adopting ESL matches a wider industry movement. South Africa’s retail sector is expected to expand substantially over the next five years, and PriceWizard has customized its Hanshow-based system to integrate with legacy point-of-sale infrastructure. This compatibility lowers adoption hurdles for stores using older technology.

Though PriceWizard highlights cost reductions and operational gains, the broader effect may be transforming daily workflows. Retailers avoid manual price changes, minimizing errors and allowing staff to focus on higher-priority tasks. Smaller operators could also cut waste by eliminating paper labels. However, widespread adoption hinges on whether African merchants recognize quick financial benefits, particularly in regions where labor remains inexpensive relative to automation costs.

They are now inviting dealers and developers to engage, indicating plans to expand across the continent. Over the years, PriceWizard has refined the technology to suit local supply chains and shopping habits, ensuring practicality for African markets.

The partnership follows growing demand for digital retail tools in emerging economies. In Kenya, for example, similar ESL deployments have already cut inventory discrepancies by up to 40% in pilot stores. The system’s real-time updates also help combat stockouts and overstocking, two persistent challenges for African retailers.

PriceWizard’s African rollout begins in Nigeria and Ghana, where it will pilot the solution with mid-sized grocery chains. The company plans to leverage its existing network of regional distributors to accelerate deployment, targeting markets where consumer spending is rising fastest.

They have also addressed power reliability concerns by designing the ESL units to operate on backup batteries during outages, a common issue in parts of Africa. This feature ensures uninterrupted service even in areas with inconsistent electricity.
